History

On June 1, 1849 messengers from the church’s of the Coffee Creek Association convened at Plymouth School House, Scott County, Indiana and duly constituted the Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church. The church covenant was adopted and 33 members came forward and enrolled their names as charter member.

The church was received into the Coffee Creek Baptist Association on September 1849. Also into The Indiana Baptist State Convention which was organized April 26, 1833.

The meeting house was located on the road leading from Lexington to Vienna about midway between the two towns. After several years worshiping in the Plymouth School House and during the years of 1882 to 1890 the church held services in the “old log church” building where attendance was good. At a business meeting in 1890 solicitors were appointed to raise means to build a new church.

The one room school house closed its doors but the church continued to use it as a place for church activities until in burned in 1960. In 1892 a new church building was dedicated.

During the early 1900’s the church met on the 4th Saturday of each month. In August of 1922 the church began having halftime services. A good Sunday School was maintained and they had organized a Women’s Baptist Missionary Society. Also that year the pastor started the B.Y.P.U. (a youth organization).

In 1957 a parsonage was finished for pastors. In 1973 a new sanctuary was completed. Both of which are still being used today. The Sunday School wing was added in 1984 which house a small fellowship hall, kitchen, church offices and classrooms. In 2004 the Family Life Center was dedicated with several more classrooms, nurseries, bathrooms, kitchen and gym/fellowship hall.
